Junior Grand Prix
28th January 2010
A depleted field contended the second of the junior grand prix series, following the cancellation of the December race due to dangerous weather conditions.
However the athletes who did take part did not disappoint with the majority of runners returning personal best times. 9 Year old Megan Gilroy, competing for the first time and the youngest runner in the field, showed great promise and held off the rest of the fast-finishing runners to win the race by a clear margin from 10 year old Jack Peters, who in turn knocked an impressive 1 minute 16 seconds off his previous time.
Vicki Tanner, at just 13 and a relative newcomer to running, demonstrated her potential in the sport, racing from the back of the field to take 3rd place and consequently returned the fastest time of the night by an impressive margin.
Leading the grand prix ranking after this race is 11 year old Angel Chhina, with 16 points, closely followed by Vicki Tanner with 18 points with 12 year old William Robson and 13 year old Hannah Gilroy tying for 3rd place with 22 points.
